The North-West Coast’s main scouts headquarters at Ulverstone is to be sold as part of the National Redress Scheme.
The scheme was established in 2018 in response to the Royal Commission Into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse and is one of nine properties put on the market by Scouts Tasmania, including the Spreyton Scout Hall, which was sold in 2022, in order for the organisation to meet its obligation under the scheme.
Mo9ney raised through the scheme is used to for support and compensation to victims.
The Leven District Scout Hall was originally built by volunteers and opened in 1963.
Scouts Tasmania has offered the building to the Central Coast Council, which said it’s unable to buy it, but willing to help scouts find a new location.
The organisation runs scout halls on the North-West Coast in Devonport, Burnie, Spreyton, and Somerset, as well as camps near Forth, Ulverstone and Heybridge, a sea scouts unit at Port Sorell and a Rover group at Penguin.
