Premier Jeremy Rockliff says hydrotherapy pools planned for the redevelopment of the North West Support School campuses in Devonport and Burnie will be opened up to the wider community if the Government is re-elected next month.

Hydrotherapy pools are planned as part of the $62 million investment into the new support school campus in Devonport and the $3 million upgrade of the Burnie campus.

Mr Rockliff says a memorandum of understanding will be developed between the Department of Health and the Department for Education, Children and Young People to allow access from the wider community.

The Mersey Community Hospital at Latrobe boasts a new state of the art hydrotherapy pool, but the Burnie pool at the North West Regional Hospital was closed earlier this year, being deemed no longer suitable or modern hydrotherapy requirements, forcing many patients to seek our private facilities, as the Latrobe pool is often heavily booked.

Construction on the special school campuses, including hydrotherapy pools, is expected to start next year.
