New eco-friendly rest stop facilities have opened at Mount Montgomery in time for Summer, enhancing amenities for those visiting the popular spot in the Dial Ranges.

Federal funding helping to deliver a new sustainable toilet that uses captured rainwater to function, while mountain bike riders have scored new wash-down and repair facilities and the picnic area has been refreshed with new shelters.

Central Coast Council say they took an eco-friendly approach to extending the carpark, increasing capacity to 36 spaces, including two accessible bays, by using recycled concrete crushed into road base and mulching removed trees for reuse in the garden beds.

The Cradle Coast Mountain Bike Club welcoming the new facilities and praising the bike-wash down feature as an important asset to assist with protecting the sensitive forest environment.

Club President Chris Fletcher says the recreational attraction of the Dial Range is huge but outdoor enthusiasts, particularly mountain bike tourists are only just becoming aware of what it offers.

“This facility will lift its status statewide and nationally.”
