Walking 4 Health & Helen: Over 50 Tassie Walks in Under 50 days

Devonport resident, Brian Stace, is challenging his 77 year old body to do over 50 Tassie walks in 7 weeks in memory of his wife, Helen, who died of ovarian cancer mid last  year and as a Cancer Council fundraiser.  He starts on March 9th (in Hobart) and finishes April 27th at the Tasmanian Arboretum, Eugenana.

Visit his webpage www.doitforcancer.com.au/fundraisers/brianstace . His associated Facebook page “Walking 4 Health & Helen” will provide daily posts of his walks and travels through Tassie’s most scenic areas.

One of Brian’s objectives is to raise the awareness of the many health benefits of regular exercise, particularly walking. His wife did 35 of these walks at least once after diagnosis, improving her quality of life during treatment and her final months.

This will be a significant personal challenge for Brian. He had urgent open heart surgery, followed by a stroke, 3½ years ago and he has just had treatment for a minor cancer.

Many of the walks are in the North West Region, including at Cradle Mountain, Leven Canyon, the Bird River walk near Queenstown, 2 magnificent waterfall walks on the West Coast, climbing the Nut and Archers Knob and finishing at the Tasmanian Arboretum after short walks in Devonport & Latrobe.

Limited spaces are available for those wishing to join in a walk or two in memory of a loved one.
