A development application for a $12 million visitor accommodation complex on Cradle Mountain Road has been lodged with the Kentish Council.

With the public comment period still open, the application, currently on show on the council’s website, wasn’t listed for consideration at last week’s monthly council meeting for September, but will most likely be considered next month.

The development has been proposed by Staytas Operations, which already operates the Cradle Mountain Wilderness Village, Franklin Manor at Strahan and other accommodation in Launceston, Hobart and the East Coast.

The application says 34 visitor accommodation cabins will be built in clusters of three or four, with priority given to environmental considerations over the entire project.

A guest services building will include reception and a restaurant, while a bathhouse complex will include a plunge pool, Japanese onsen pool, a steam room, showers and massages.

The application says the complex is envisaged to be an eco-style, luxury, wilderness experience on a unique secluded site.
