A Devonport Councilor has raised concerns after it was revealed complex cardiac patients presenting by ambulance at the Mersey Community Hospital will be diverted to the Launceston General Hospital.
Steve Martin urging the State Government to provide answers to the community on why they weren’t told, saying it’s been a more than two decade fight to protect services at the Mersey.
Cr Martin particularly alarmed by the change due to the regions health profile, which shows the North West has higher rates of Heart Disease than the rest of the state.
It’s feared the redirection will lead paramedic fatigue, a lack of ambulances in the region and the possibility of patients being stranded after being discharged from the L-G-H.
The Tasmanian Health service says the 6 month pilot project is due to the Mersey not having definitive cardiac care.
