Two North-West Coasters have been awarded prestigious Nuffield Scholarships to further their studies in agriculture.
Table Cape Tulip Farm general manager David Roberts-Thompson and horticulturist Kirsty Dickenson who works for Costa Berries, which grows berries at East Devonport, Wesley Vale and Sulphur Creek, will each receive $35,000 to further their knowledge.
They’re among 23 scholarship recipients around Australia involved in food and fibre production typically aged between 28 and 45.
Mr Roberts-Thompson will explore opportunities to increase soil health, crop resilience, profitability and yield in a changing climate and will visit parts of Europe and the UK where production has been increased from less inputs.
Ms Dickenson plans to visit berry producers and fruit production businesses within Australia, as well as in the UK, US, the Netherlands and Denmark.
She says the markets of the US and Europe have matured and faced many challenges which still lie ahead for the Australian industry.
