TasNetworks has issued a notice to proceed to head contractor Genus, marking the start of construction on the North West Transmission Developments.
The notice follows the Tasmanian Civil and Administrative Tribunal’s recent decision to uphold the Tasmanian Planning Commission’s approval of the project’s planning permit.
TasNetworks’ NWTD Project Director, Richie Sheather, said it was a significant milestone.
“Issuing a notice to proceed represents years of planning, design, approvals and preparation,” Mr Sheather said.
“Our focus now is on delivering this critical infrastructure for Tasmania safely and responsibly while continuing to work closely with landholders and the community.
Stage 1 includes 129 kilometres of new and upgraded transmission lines, as well as new substations and a switching station, extending from Cressy to Burnie via Sheffield.
