The East Devonport Football Club is a step closer to returning to senior competition in the NWFL after appointing a senior coach.

The Swans withdrew from the senior, reserves and colts competitions in 2021, but kept its junior programme running.

The club has formally approached the NWFL to rejoin senior and colts competitions next season, with a decision likely at the league’s annual meeting in December.

Meanwhile, the Swans are on the front foot, announcing former Penguin assistant coach Kyle Smith to lead the charge back into the NWFL next season.

Smith has also been involved in coaching at Tasmanian State League level and was part of building up current TSL premier Kingborough’s rise from a low starting point, entering the TSL in 2014 and languishing near the bottom of the ladder for several years.

The Swans haven’t locked in a contract term for Smith yet and must now set about finding assistant coaches and players to take to the field in the red and white for next season.
