It’s a case of back to the future for Fenton Way in Devonport, with the announcement of a new $15 million education development.
The Devonport City Council will restore the original layout of Fenton Street to accommodate the planned four-storey new Devonport Indie School.
Fenton Way was created when new council chambers were built in 1984 on the site of the current multi-storey carpark, along with the adjacent former Devonport Library.
At the time, it dissected Fenton Street, creating Fenton Way and North Fenton Street, with the area South of the council chambers retaining the Fenton Street name.
The Devonport City Council hasn’t said if any street names will be changed, but Mayor Alison Jarman is more focused on the potential development of the land between Fenton Way and Market Square as part of stage three of the Living City Project.
