An inquest into the Hillcrest primary School tragedy which killed six children in 2021 is no closer with Supreme Court proceedings to resume today.

The children died when a gust of wind blew an inflatable jumping castle into the air during and end of school year celebration, with another three seriously injured.

Preliminary coronial inquest proceedings were halted in February because Work Safe Tasmania refused to pass on important documents to the coroner.

Work Safe has taken Supreme Court action to prevent 17 documents being released, saying to do so would prejudice ongoing investigations and potential prosecutions.

The matter listed for a directions hearing today in the Supreme Court in Hobart.

Work Safe says while it’s worked closely with the Coroner while conducting its own investigation, it also wants to ensure a fair and just outcome for the families of victims, as well as for individuals who may have had responsibilities under the Work Health and Safety Act.
