Hobart’s annual Christmas Pageant has waltzed through the CBD, bringing colour and festive energy to the capital.

This year is the 40th anniversary of the pageant and included more than 40 floats and over 1000 participants – school groups, charities, sporting clubs, and musicians all joining in.

Santa and his fellow festive friends made their long awaited return in front of the thousands of spectators.

It’s the first time since 2019 the event has gone ahead, after the pandemic put a stop to large events.

Hobart Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds said the pageant was special because while it was a celebration of Christmas, it was also a celebration of the local community.

“The procession traditionally marks the start of the festive season in Hobart and brings everyone together to celebrate our rich community spirit. The event fills the streets of Hobart with a huge celebration of floats, dancers, marching bands and showcases participants from a diverse range of community, school, sporting clubs and charity groups, as it winds its way around the central city block,” she said.
