Montgomery MLC Leonie Hiscutt has announced she won’t be re-contesting her seat next year, but there’s a chance it could still remain in the family.
On the same day she announced her resignation, her son and current serving Central Coast Councillor Casey Hiscutt has announced he intends contest the election next year as independent, even though his mother is a Liberal member.
Mr Hiscutt says in a statement he’s a firm believer f the Upper House as a house of review best served by independent members.
If elected, he will continued a Hiscutt family tradition for the division, with his uncles Des Hiscutt and the late Hugh Hiscutt having also held the seat as independents.
The Montogomery division incorporates all of the Central Coast municipality, the majority of the Burnie City area and part of the Kentish Municipality, including Sheffield.
Leonie Hiscutt has held the seat for the past 11 years, saying her focus in her final 12 months will be supporting he Premier to deliver on the 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania.
