The long-awaited major redevelopment of Camp Banksia at Port Sorell., now known as the Banksia Centre, has been completed.
The new $5.7 million multi-purpose complex was funded through a $4 million grant from the Federal Government and $1.7 million from the Latrobe Council and includes bunk-style accommodation for up to 106 people.
Latrobe Mayor Peter Freshney says funding for the facility would not have happened if not for support from former Nationals Senator Steve Martin and current Labor Senator Anne Urquhart.

Councillor Freshney says the traditional role of the facility – used by schools, clubs and community groups – has changed and it’s an important community hub for Port Sorell and surrounding communities.
