The Devonport City Council is expected to approve a new $2.95 million development in the CBD for a cycling hub and apartments in Fenton Way.

The land, adjacent to the former Devonport Library was sold to developers by the council earlier this year.

A report included in the agenda for Monday night’s monthly council meeting for December has recommended the council approve the development application.

The complex will include what the developers have described as a state-of-the-art cycling hub, which will include a retail cycling store, cafe, bike hire and an area for mountain bike shuttle busses, with seven residential apartments as well.

The developers say they are keen to cash in on the mountain biking boom, using Devonport as a base to explore the region’s world-class mountain bike trails, offering package deals including bike hire, shuttles and accomodation.

If approved, work is expected to start next month and will take around a year to complete.
