Surf Life Saving Tasmania, Ambulance Tasmania, the Swift Water Rescue Unit and Police Search and Rescue were called to West Takone on Saturday, after a thirty-two-year-old man was nearly swept away trying to wade out to a Ute, stuck in a section of the Arthur River.
Rescuers using an inflatable rescue boat to get to the man – who was clinging to the vehicle and taking refuge in the ute due to the dangerous conditions.
Police say the Burnie man is lucky he wasn’t taken away by the current- saying the situation could well have had a tragic ending.
Initial reports indicate a group of people were four-wheel-driving near Relapse Creek Road and Farquhars Road when the driver allegedly struck trouble and rolled the Ute into a section of the river.
Authorities are reminding campers and four-wheel-drive enthusiasts to the dangers of entering creeks and rivers in the Tasmanian bush.
