Controversial Burnie City Council general manager Simon Overland has resigned from his position.
Mr Overland, Simon Overland, a former Victorian police commissioner, has advised the council he intends to step down in November, four years after he was appointed and with a year remaining on his five-year contract.
Burnie Mayor Teeny Brumby says Mr Overland has given sufficient notice for the council to recruit a new GM and ensure continuity and a smooth transition, and the Council will shortly commence the recruitment process for a replacement.
Mr Overland says will be returning to live in Melbourne at the end of his employment council.
Burnie is not the only Coastal council to see a GM depart this year, with long-serving Latrobe and Kentish general manager Gerald Monson retiring last month, replaced by Jason Browne.
The Central Coast last year farewelled long-serving general manager Sandra Ayton, who retired in June, replaced by current GM Barry Omundson.
