The population of Local Government areas at the Western end of the Braddon Electorate are set to shrink over the next 30 years, according to predictions in a report from the Department of Treasury and Finance.
The Department’s recently-published Tas POPP 2024 Report, Tasmania’s population is only expected to grow by another 70,000 over the next 30 years, with numbers actually going backwards in seven municipalities.
Five of them – Circular Head, Burnie, West Coast, Waratah-Wynyard and King Island are part of Braddon.
Circular Head faces the biggest loss of 708, followed by Burine, 620, and the West Coast with a population growth of minus 463, while Waratah-Wynyard is set to lose 128 people by 2053.
At the other end of the scale, Latrobe looks likely to remain one of the state’s fastest-growing municipalities, with a projected growth of 4,708.
Kentish is expected to grow by 870 people, Central Coast by 363, and Devonport by 252.
