Tasmania Police have played a crucial role in a Queensland sting this week.
Crime and Intelligence Command officers travelled to the mainland to arrest a 26-year-old man, after he allegedly imported 1kg of methylamphetamine (“Ice”) to Queensland from overseas, in April this year.
The man relocated from Tasmania to Queensland late last year, and Tasmania Police’s Serious Organised Crime Unit played a crucial role in the seizure.
The drugs were intercepted by authorities in New South Wales and replaced with a replica consignment.
The illicit substance was then reportedly found by AFP investigators at a Gold Coast address.
The methylamphetamine seized is believed to be worth $1 million on the streets.
The Gold Coast man has been charged with importing a border-controlled drug and other drug offences and will face Southport Magistrates Court today.
Detective Senior Sergeant Deearna Rowe has applauded the work of Tasmanian officers.
“Tasmania Police will continue to work closely with partner agencies to target organised crime groups and detect and disrupt illicit drug activity in Australia”.
