October 18, 2023 10:18 am in by

TasPorts has recorded its second-highest profit on record – $14.2 million in the black for the 2022-2023 financial year.

Freight volumes remained steady for the Government-owned enterprise, but cruise ship visits to Hobart and Burnie were well up following the pandemic-affected previous year.

Increased flights and passengers into the Devonport Airport, owned by TasPorts, also helped the bottom line.

Infrastructure Minister Michael Ferguson says more than 2600 ships visited Tasmanian ports for the year, including 125 cruise ships.

Mr Ferguson says flight numbers at the Devonport Airport more than doubled from 1622 to 3796 for the financial year, while passenger numbers rocketed up from 46,500 to 120,000.

TasPorts subsidiary Bass Strait Island Line carried 5,590 containers between Devonport and King Island, an increase of 1499 on the previous year.
