Devonport’s Best Street Carpark has been named as one of Tasmania’s hot spots for carpark bingles during the Festive Season.
RACT Insurance has released a report showing a 20 per cent upsurge in carpark incidents, with carparks in Rosny and New Town in the South, as well as carparks in Launceston and Devonport the most accident-proned.
The company, which covers a third of motor vehicle insurance in the state, says it’s seen a consistent average 20 per cent increase in car park accidents during the holiday season in recent years.
Devonport’s Best Street Carpark, which services K-Mart as well as Coles and Woolworths Supermarkets, has seen an increase of 33 per cent in carpark bingles in December in recent years.
The RACT is urging motorists to exercise patience behind the wheel, navigate cautiously and take it slow to ensure pedestrian safety, especially while reversing.
