Tasmanians are being asked to unite for lifelong respect in the lead-up to World Elders Abuse Awareness Day on Saturday.
A series of Walks Against Elder Abuse will be held in Devonport on Wednesday, Launceston on Friday, and Hobart on Monday.
CEO of Council of the Ageing, or COTA, Tasmania Brigid Wilkinson says elder abuse is happening in homes, in care settings, and in public spaces.
Ms Wilkinson says elder abuse takes many forms, including financial, physical, emotional, psychological, sexual, and neglect, and it often goes unreported due to fear, shame, or a lack of awareness.
She says the walks are being held to raise awareness and visibility, and acknowledges there is still much to do in supporting older adults to be free from harm.
The Devonport awareness walk will start from Market Square tomorrow from 10am.
