Chopper, spikes to catch runaway SA driver
A unlicensed driver will face court accused of trying to outrun a South Australian police helicopter, after crashing into a car yard while swerving to avoid road spikes.
The SA PolAir chopper was deployed after a police patrol tried to pull the man's unregistered Holden Commodore over in the outer Adelaide suburb of Edinburgh shortly before midnight on Saturday.
The driver allegedly refused to stop and sped off.
After unsuccessfully trying to avoid road spikes at Klemzig, police say the man lost control and crashed into a power pole, then a fence, damaging a vehicle inside a car yard.
He and a female passenger ran from the scene but were nabbed a short distance away.
Both were taken to Royal Adelaide Hospital by ambulance with minor injuries.
The 30-year-old was expected to be charged with driving without due care, driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle, driving while unlicensed and failing to stop for police.
He also had two outstanding warrants and will appear in Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday.
