Authorities meet to prepare for Qld storms
The weather bureau and north Queensland emergency service agencies will hold meetings in Townsville on Friday to prepare for the coming storm season.
Bureau of Meteorology's acting state manager Victoria Dodds said the seminar is being held to get authorities on the same page ahead of a season which has the potential to be as damaging as last year.
"While the 2017/18 tropical cyclone outlook points to a typical season, as we saw earlier this year with severe tropical Cyclone Debbie, one event can have a devastating effect on a number of communities," Ms Dodds said.
The outlook, released earlier this week, predicted four cyclones to form in eastern waters, with at least one making landfall.
Parts of Queensland affected by Debbie - including Daydream Island, Airlie Beach and Proserpine - are still recovering seven months after being hit.
