Qld rural firey charged over fire lighting

A teenage Rural Fire Service volunteer has been charged with lighting fires at night in Queensland.

Police will allege two grass fires were deliberately lit at Nanango, north west of Brisbane, at 10.30pm on Saturday.

The fires were allegedly lit on a tourist trail in the area with the first blaze spreading over 900 square metres while the second was about 80 square metres.

Police were called to a nearby property where a third fire was found in a skip bin.

They say it was deliberately lit and damaged the bin.

Fire fighters extinguished all three fires.

On Sunday police spoke with a volunteer of the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service Rural Fire Service at Nanango.

The volunteer was arrested and charged with two counts of light ing unauthorised fires and one count of wilful damage.

The 18-year-old man is due to appear in the Nanango Magistrate Court on October 31.
