Police are appealing for witnesses after a highway walker was hit and killed by a car in Hobart's north on Friday night.

The 29-year-old man was walking south on the Brooker Highway at Granton when a ute hit him near the Black Snake Road intersection.

The crash occurred at 9:50 pm, and investigators are keen to hear from anyone who saw the incident or the man walking on the highway beforehand.

The ute's driver wasn't injured.
