New quarantine deal for Tas/Vic
The Tasmanian and Victorian governments have arranged a quarantine-swap deal.
Tasmania has agreed to quarantine farm workers heading for the Victorian harvest, while Victoria will provide quarantine facilities for overseas Tasmanians wanting to return home.
The Tasmanian Government has committed to the program for the first half of 2021, with the cost of the farm worker quarantine shared by the Victorian government and the farm industry.
Premier Peter Gutwein says it makes sense to do this.
"This represents a good outcome for Tasmania with our hotel quarantine program now solely able to focus on arrivals who represent a lower risk with regard to potential transmission of the virus and importantly our own requirements for seasonal workers will continue to remain the priority and will not be impacted by this agreement."
"I do want to thank Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews for working with me on this and forming a partnership," Mr Gutwein said.
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews says Victorian growers are looking at a bumper crop this season and the arrangement should help with the pressure of finding farm workers.
