Confidence in Searoad ship builder

Liekut

Searoad managing director Chas Kelly is confident the replacement ship for the Lekuit, currently being leased for the Devonport to Melbourne freight run will be completed on schedule.

The as yet un-named replacement vessel is being built in Germany by FSG, which encountered financial difficulties in 2019, forcing the State Government to cancel the contract for the replacement Spirit of Tasmania ships, now being built in Finland.

Mr Kelly says FSG, which built the Searoad Mersey 2 in 2016, has ben restructured and he has complete faith in the process with the new ship scheduled for completion by the end of next year.
