Nurses strike action not off the table yet

Planned industrial action by nurses at the Mersey Community Hospital at Latrobe and North West Regional Hospital in Burnie hasn't been ruled out by their union while members consider an offer made by Premier and Health Minister Jeremy Rockliff negotiate on pay rises and extra recruitment.

Mr Rockliff presented a 10-point plan to address workload pressures, recruit more nurses and implement programmes so more people can access primary health care outside hospitals and in their community.

The Australian Nurses and Midwifery Federation had planned industrial action at Latrobe next Wednesday and Burnie to following week.

Tasmanian state secretary Emily Shepherd says the plans haven't been cancelled yet and members need time to consider the Government's offer.
