Police investigate crash involving car and train
Early investigations into a crash between a train and a sedan in Spreyton this morning indicate the sedan failing to stop at a train crossing to be the likely cause.
Police say around 7.50am, emergency services attended a crash between an unladen freight train and a Mazda sedan near the intersection of Mersey Main Road and Sheffield Road.
The 50-year-old female driver of the sedan was transported to hospital with minor injuries. The train driver was not injured.
The sedan sustained significant damage and was towed from the scene.
Police say investigations are ongoing with early indications suggest the failure of the sedan to stop at a train crossing to be the likely cause of the crash.
“This incident is testament to the need for all drivers on our roads to remain alert, observant and safe at all times,” said Sergeant Scott Poke.
