Drug, firearm raids


Police say dawn raids around Greater Hobart this morning are targeting ice, cannabis and firearms trafficking.

Police armed with sledgehammers and the dog squad were seen at locations including an industrial premises on Albert Road at Moonah as well as a home at Bridgewater.

"Significant seizures have been made as a result of the investigation," said Detective Inspector Kate Chambers.

"This includes a vehicle seized from a Moonah premises which police believe has relevance to the investigation into the murder of Jarrod Leigh Turner at Colebrook on 14 April this year."

It was one of nine Southern Drug Investigation Services raids around Greater Hobart, Operation Gold officers making five arrests this morning.

One of the premises was fortified and a man was injured in his backside as police gained entry - he's been treated in hospital. 

"Operation Gold has resulted in the recovery of 3 firearms (two stolen and one homemade), the seizure of approximately $80,000 worth of illicit drugs (amphetamine and
cannabis) and a significant amount of cash totalling more than $25,000."
