Hobart hotel receives green light
Another 206 rooms will be added to Hobart's increasingly stretched accommodation offerings if the full Hobart City Council signs off on a nine-storey hotel at next week's meeting.
Fragrance Group's proposal for a hotel, plus up to 60 car parking spaces underneath, to replace the former Myer outlet on Macquarie Street last night received the Planning Committee's tick of approval.
Planning Committee Chair Helen Burnett says the new proposal eased previous concerns.
"It has a set back away from the old Hutchins' building, it was felt this was a good improvement and that it serviced the accommodation in the city," she said.
If it goes ahead, it will be subject to 29 conditions after opponents raised heritage concerns.
However, Ms Burnett says the design of the proposed building is such that it complements the two different buildings on either side.
It would be only the second hotel Fragrance Group has had approved in Hobart.
