Yacht restoration update
An update has been issued on the intended restoration of a veteran yacht, which arrived in time for an appearance at Tasmania's Wooden Boat Festival earlier this year.
Mistral 11, which competed in the first Sydney to Hobart in 1945 and for years afterwards, was delivered to its new home of Hobart by a navy ship in February.
The state government has detailed how 18 disadvantaged trainees will work on the Windeward Bound project involving TasTAFE and Seafood and Maritime Training Tasmania.
It is hoped a partially restored Mistral 11 can meet the Sydney to Hobart fleet for the race’s 75th anniversary in 2020 and be fully completed for the schooner's 100th anniversary in 2022.
The Mistral 11 does not appear in the above image of the Wooden Boat Festival.
