Car spiked, gun found

police lights new

A runaway driver has kept police busy in Greater Hobart overnight.

Officers driving on the Bowen Bridge around 12:30 am noticed a silver Nissan Pathfinder which had been stolen from Kingston.

The vehicle evaded them but was eventually spiked at Gagebrook before stopping on the East Derwent Highway at Old Beach.

A 26-year-old Lenah Valley man is in custody - it's alleged a loaded firearm was also found in the vehicle.

Police are seeking information from anyone who may have observed the silver Nissan Pathfinder between Kingston and Gagebrook - Sergeant Robert Bessell can be contacted at Bridgewater Police Station on 61732011.

Later in the morning, fire crews had to respond to Gagebrook to douse a burning car in a park off Viola Crescent.
