130 jobs axed
Tasmania is on the verge of losing an estimated 130 call centre jobs if Vodafone's restructure plan is implemented.
Citing ongoing business pressures, the company claims it can no longer sustain the 230 positions at its Hobart contact centre.
Vodafone is pledging to redeploy staff where possible, and is indicating an eagerness for other employers to take the opportunity to secure their very experienced workers.
The announcement comes despite the company receiving millions in government assistance in exchange for maintaining a 700 strong workforce in Tasmania.
The Hobart centre once held an estimated 1021 jobs, but with the latest move from Vodafone, this number will shrink to just 100.
It is believed that new technologies have placed extreme strain on the company, as Vodafone is preparing to deliver a 5G network to customers.
