Abandoned roadwork sign menace
Drivers across Tasmania tearing their hair out over snail pace speed limits from redundant roadworks signs may have some satisfaction in the near future.
Burnie Mayor Steve Kons is making it his business to prompt the state government to introduce fines for contractors who leave signs out, after roadworks have finished.
"For these signs to be left over for long periods of time that impede traffic and there's no safety concerns I think it's a ridiculous way of people not complying with the spirit of safety laws."
It is also thought the use of signs where there are no active roadworks could be desensitising drivers to locations where there are genuine changed conditions.
Note, the above photo is at an active roadworks location.
