Coastal schools among most crowded and least crowded

There’s good and bad news for North-West schools in the latest national figures from the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority.

The statistics have revealed Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School in Devonport is the most-crowded in state with a ratio of 17.4 students per teacher – worse than the national average of 12.6

Burnie’s Stella Marist Primary School is almost as crowded, with an average of 17.2 students per teacher.

Catholic Education Tasmania says enrolments are at an all-time high at its 38 schools across the state.

Not surprisingly, some of Tasmania’s remote and rural schools with small student populations have some of the best student to teacher ratios in Tasmania.

Topping the top 10 list of least crowded schools in Tasmania is Natone Primary, with just 5.3 students per teacher.

Other schools in the region among the 10 least crowded include Edith Creek Primary at 6.3, Rosebery District School with 6.6 and Wilmot Primary with 6.7 students per teacher.
