A Coroner has ruled a 73 year-old Burnie man who was killed when he was struck by a log truck while crossing the Bass Highway in February last year, was entirely to blame for his own death.

Releasing her findings into the death of Paul Thomas Gillam, Coroner Olivia McTaggart, said the fully laden Log truck which struck Mr Gillam was being driven correctly through the intersection of Wilson Street in Burnie and the Bass Highway with a green light and travelling at 65 km/hr in a 70 km/hr zone.

The driver tried to take evasive action, but Mr Gillam’s head impacted on the side of the trailer, causing massive injuries.

Ms Taggart saud the collision was caused entirely by Mr Gillam crossing the highway when it was not safe to do so.
