Rowing titles brings thousands to the North-West Coast

More than 2000 rowers from all over Australia and overseas are converging on the Lake Barrington International Rowing Course for the Australian Masters Rowing Championships which get underway today.

Competitors have virtually booked out most of the available accommodation between Burnie and Launceston, providing a significant economic boost for the region.

Rowers aged from 27 to over 80 will be competing in a packed programme of 380 events over four days, which started at 8am on Wednesday.

Rowing Tasmania CEO Rob Prescott says the titles are providing a significant economic boost for the region and there’s more to come in March next year when Lake Barrington will also host the Australian Rowing Championships.
