Rail access to Devonport and Burnie Ports from other parts of the state remains blocked following Monday night’s crash at Westbury involving a train and a semi-trailer.

No one was injured, but the locomotive was derailed and around 100metres of track damaged.

The train was on its way to Hobart with containers from the North-West when the crash occurred.

TasRail CEO Steven Deitrich says the full extent of the dame won’t be known until the locomotive is lifted, but he’s still hopeful access to the North West will be restored later on Wednesday.

He says TasRail has reported 44 level crossing fail to stop and near miss incidents since in the past 10 months – many of them on the North-West Coast.
